Elastic Drums is a music app showcasing an interactive drum kit, that enables to create a huge range of rhythmic grids, ranging from classical analog drumkits up to experimental soundscapes.
It contains six channels of high quality synthesized drum sounds, a step sequencer and 4 effect channels. All important control parameters are automatable. The result: Elastic drum composition with a unique character!

Features:
- 6 synth channels with 13 different percussion synth engines (kick, snare, hihat, clap, tom, wobble, fm, fm4, square, grain, synth, drone, sampler)
- 12 parameters for each synth engine
- automation for each parameter via knob recording or velocity
- 4 send effect channels with 2x13 mono effects and 2x11 stereo effects
- automation for all of the 8 possible effect parameters via xy pad
- master effects (stutter, delay, compressor ...)
- 16 step sequencer for the 6 channels, each with its own tempo multiplier & length
- record audio and export to Soundcloud or Audioshare
- email audio recordings and presets
- Audiobus, Audiobus Remote, Inter-App Audio and Ableton Link support
- Midi learn/Midi implementation of the most important parameters

Because all sounds get generated in realtime, the app is cpu heavy! iPhones 5 and greater can handle it with no problem, on iPhone 4s effects 3 and 4 get switched off by the engine automatically to save some cpu power. iPhone 4 and iPad1 are NOT recommended!

Elastic Drums is published by MoMinstruments, the instruments app label of Mouse on Mars and friends.

Pros and cons of Elastic Drums app for iPhone and iPad

Elastic Drums app good for

Great app, but the song-mode does not keep the value of pattern length. And so the automation. Song-mode and automation stay at 16 units while pattern-length is set to 12. THX
Extra star for being a responsive, proactive dev. I am absolutely loving this drum synth & sequencer. The sound sculpting capabilities are much deeper than your average drum synth and the automation tools open many possibilities.
Many apps have come around, claiming to be the ultimate drum synthesis/sequencing solution. Yet, I still find Elastic Drums to be my ideal software for making abstract beats, with surprising twists, swings, stutters and polyrhythmic oddities. I feel inspired when I use it, and it is featured in countless tracks of mine. Five stars forever.
The latest update with the jam section is realy cool and I have a lot of fun playing with it ! 2 new synth engines for more colors in your sounds...
One of the best Synthesis based DrumMachines. Great update, finally updated for iPad with a lot of fixes and new features. Runs great on Air and latest iOS. EXCELLENT New update and future sampler in the works.
Very useful and powerful sound design toolbox in your pocket. Intuitive controls and sounds very good. Nice to have feature suggestions: - pattern independent automation with variable length ( like in Ableton) - pitch adjustment with semitones - something like pianoroll - sampler to load and edit samples - LFO sync to tempo like 1/16, 3/4 etc. - longer pattern length

Some bad moments

Looks ok, sounds kind of cool when you start playing with it, but if you actually want to use it as a drum machine and sync it to other apps youre going to be frustrated. The midi timing in this app is all over the place. I opened a new project, turned off all swing and automation, and drew in straight sixteenth notes. I recorded then analyzed the file in my computer in Logic. The only hi-hat hit that was on time was the first, the rest were ahead or behind the beat by sometimes frightening (and always audible) amounts. Trying to sync the app using Abeton Link to Modstep or Gadget didnt help. I use Korg Gadget, Modstep, Patterning, Sunrizer, Synthmaster, Genome, and AUM and they all work well. So so sorry I paid so much money for this, and angry that I wasted my time today. Only good for goofing around, its not yet a real instrument. Hating this app pretty seriously right now.
This is really fantastic piece of work - the drums sound great and can be tweaked to your hearts desire, the sequencer is expressive, KAOSS-style control over some lovely effects. All of the features Id expect in a shweet drum machine are here -- must-have, maybe the best app of 2014.
What an excellent app. Feature rich and sounds great. This is a definite "must have" instrument if you own an iPhone. Impressive all around. Interface, sound quality, features... Its hard to ask for more. I love the randomizing functions too. This is a gem, and Ive only spent a little time with it so far. Its very easy to get a grasp on it in literally 2 or 3 minutes if youre already familiar with drum machines and drum synthesis. Very well executed. Looking forward to the updates.
......not perfect yet. In-app recording is not straight-forward. Using with Audiobus gets an error. Not ideal on iPad, waiting for Universal-version
Not sure what the triangle button does next to the record menu. Fx x-y pad doesnt work on iPad mini either. Would like to see these fixed and perhaps a universal version.
Very cool looking UI and even better sound! It is like having a poor mans MachineDrum or MonoMachine from Elektron in my pocket. Elastic Drums gives you six independent drum synths. Each synth can be triggered using a 16 step sequencer. The cool part is that up to 12 parameters (pitch, effects, panning, grain synth effect, etc.) can be adjusted and saved per step in a sequence via automation! The creative potential is inspiring and very deep as a result. Sound quality is really good and it is Audiobus compatible. Moreover, you can chain patterns (with automation in tact) to create entire drum tracks. Just like Elektron stuff the program is a little confusing at first. But like the hardware it is imitating, exploration is generally rewarded with high quality results! Good stuff!
